Renting a car is easy and inexpensive in Puerto Vallarta.
While some guests have commented that they often find it easier and often cheaper to book their rental transportation online before they arrive. which rental company, which car and model and how much to spend is a personal decision.
Here is only a partial list of international rental car companies and websites that rent cars in Puerto Vallarta.
Rental Car Insurance: Here are a few guidelines to make sure you're adequately covered:
Personal insurance, credit cards. Find out whether your personal insurance policy or credit card coverage applies to a car rental and to what extent.
Remember that insurance and credit card companies can change their rules and restrictions at any time, so make sure you're on top of any modifications to your plans.
Also, some rental car locations require you to buy their policies. This is common practice in Mexico, for instance. Part of the reason is that they cannot verify policies issued in the United States, Canada or elsewhere.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). If you're not sure what your personal insurance or credit card will cover -- or if the coverage is not sufficient -- it's wise to buy a CDW. This waiver will cover any damage to the vehicle. It won't, however, cover bodily injuries -- to you, your passengers or other motorists.
You can purchase a CDW online when booking a car rental or at the rental counter. Buying CDW insurance at the counter is more expensive, but you don't have to file a claim.
